Mughal Gardens & Dal Lake (Half Day)
Post lunch you will start the first intriguing part of your trip – Mughal Gardens. Located on the shores of famous Dal Lake creations of the royal Mughal Empire, who were thoroughly impressed and influenced by the Persian style of architecture. These gardens follow the same pattern as Persian architecture of Charbagh; of having pools, well maintained green lawns and canals within a rectilinear walled place.
Shalimar Bagh
Literally translating to “abode of love”, the Shalimar Bagh was laid out by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Nur Jahan back in 1619. It is the largest garden in Kashmir and is situated on the right bank of the mesmerizing Dal Lake in Srinagar. Shalimar Bagh is a beautiful three-terraced garden with different kinds of gardens and arrangements on each terrace.
Nishat Bagh
Nestled on the east of Dal Lake, Nishat Bagh is the second largest garden in Kashmir that has a stunning backdrop of the majestic Zabarwan ranges. A charming pool is present in the middle of this 12-terraced garden that is formed by a mountain spring. Nishat Bagh means “garden of joy” and was created in 1633 under the funds of Asif Khan, elder brother of Nur Jahan. The 12 terraces of the garden are supposed to symbolize the 12 zodiac signs.
Chashme Shahi
Nestled on the foothills of Zabarwan mountains, Chashme Shahi literally means “the royal spring”. The garden’s numerous natural springs were discovered by a female saint named Rupa Bhawani, who was also known as Shahi and are named after her. Apart from the pleasant greenery and colorful flowers that cover the garden, the natural freshwater springs are the obvious superstars of the place.
Hari Parbat Fort
From here, continue on to the Hari Parbat Fort. This prominent hilltop fort was briefly fortified in the 6th century and once again by Emperor Akbar in 1590, but most of what you see today dates from the 1808 constructions of Pathan governor Atta Mohammad Khan.
Explore old city and make time to visit Hazratbal Mosque – a shimmering marble mosque on Dal Lake’s western shore, which is said to house an enshrined hair of the beard of the Prophet Muhammed – and explore the fascinatingly chaotic old city, which is topped by a fortress and dotted with historic wooden mosques, like the Mosque of Shah Hamadan.
At sunset enjoy leisurely shikara ride on the lake. A shikara is a gondola-type light rowing boat, and the boat ride takes you on a relaxing sightseeing tour of the interior parts of the calm and placid waters of Dal Lak.

Altit Fort is spectacularly situated, overlooking the Hunza River valley, and was built almost a thousand years ago. The rectangular fort commands a view of the Hunza Valley and its tributaries, offering a strategic position for controlling the Trans-Silk Road trade route between South and Central Asia.
The rulers (Mirs) of Hunza knew that although Altit Fort commanded an impressive view and was difficult for invaders to attack, it was not impossible to conquer. Hence, the decision was made to create a fortress against the side of the glacier, providing the best vantage point and better defense strategies. As a result, Altit Fort was eventually abandoned in favor of the more than 700-year-old Baltit Fort.
Baltit Fort is a three-storey building constructed from wood and stone with mud plaster. It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List since 2004.
